The town
Rivers
Kostrzyn sits at the mouth of the Warta into the Oder, across the water from Küstrin-Kietz. Bridge and rails join both banks. The border is ordinary here.
Fortress
In the sixteenth century John of Küstrin turned the town into a fortress. In February and March 1945 almost everything inside the walls burned. It was not rebuilt. The brick went to other cities.
After the war
The lived-in town stands about a kilometre to the north-east, by the station. Paper mills hold the western edge. Until 2019 Przystanek Woodstock, later Pol’and’Rock, was held on the northern flats. The festival left.
Now
About 17,500 people. The office is at Graniczna 2. Culture in the Kręgielnia. Football: Celuloza. Twin towns: Seelow, Peitz, Sambir.
